Who is she?

Hello. I’m Emma and I’m here to write about contemplative writing, a practice of writing with curiosity and not judgment (if we possibly can).

I have always written. This has come out in songs, long form fiction and even stand up comedy. Since 2011 when I began practising contemplative writing with my teacher Miriam Hall (herspiral.com), contemplative writing has influenced all of my writing. After nearly 15 years of practising, Miriam has been teaching me how to facilitate sessions.

You are invited to join me for this journey as I share words about contemplative writing here as well the weekly writing prompts.

Wednesday Writing Prompts

My key offering here on Substack is the writing prompt tracks on a Wednesday which are usually 18:28 minutes long and, if you subscribe, will land in your inbox. This includes a writing practice based on writing with curiosity and away from judgment.

What is contemplative writing?

The basic idea of this approach to writing is to let go of a sense of judgement, productivity and other “high functioning” values and write with a different set of rules (just enough rules to keep you inner “good girl” distracted). You can read more about contemplative writing on this page.

Curious?

If the practice sounds interesting, please do follow along and share it with others who may be interested. If you have any questions or insights, please do get in touch. I will keep you posted here.
